Fantasy Sports Empires.com Blog for May 2, 2009
Hope you are all enjoying your fantasy baseball season. I have been very busy in my life and ever spare moment of free time (which has not been very much as of late) has been dedicated to fantasy sports. I am attending my first Atlanta Braves game in person on Sunday, May 3rd against the Houston Astros. I am going with Larry Wachs, Rock 100.5 "The Regular Guys" radio show. We have great seats and 755 club passes. If you happen to go to the game and read this blog, come down and say hello to us. We will be right behind the braves dugout in section 111L, row 20, seats 101-104.
I participated in my first fantasy football draft of the 2009 season. Why so early? Because fantasy magazines have to draft 1-2 months in advance of their publication dates. That's OK as I have been working on the 2009 fantasy sports empires fantasy football draft kit and spreadsheet, so my top 200 rankings were already done and I used this during my draft. I had the 12th pick and took Drew Brees with the last pick in round 1 and Clinton Portis with the first pick of round 2. Why Brees so early? You have to know your league's point system! In this league, the league settings are 1 point for every 20 passing yards, and 6 points per passing TD. Based on this information, there is a premium on quarterbacks in this league. Although I never thought that Peyton Manning would last until the early 4th round. This draft was for Krause Publication's Fantasy Sports magazine. Look for the results at your local bookstore in mid June. If you can't wait that long, order my draft kit and spreadsheet for only $4.99 with free updates all the way until the start of the NFL regular season, and the draft results are included in the draft kit!
I have updated the closer report this weekend and want to say that David Aardsma, LaTroy Hawkins, Huston Street, and Joe Beimel are the closers to pick up for the month of May.
Matt Laporta (1B, OF) is the hot pickup this week. Grab him if you can and feel free to drop Travis Hafner for all of eternity.
I am off to New Orleans on business all this week, but will be answering emails when I get the opportunity. Send your emails to jeff@fantasysportsempires.com
See you at the ball park!
